Wooden worktop renovation.
Pudsey, Leeds.
-
We recently completed this wooden worktop renovation project for some of our wonderful clients in Pudsey, Leeds. The kitchen worktop was part of a larger job where we redecorated the kitchen, dining room, and all the woodwork—and even transformed the fireplace with a pop of yellow! The solid oak worktops in this kitchen were crying out for some love, so we got to work…
We started by sanding them back to bare wood, as the previous coating was a solid varnish that had worn through in some areas and had water staining in others. It was important to take it back to bare wood because the previous finish would have repelled the new one.
Once the wood was sanded and prepared, we applied a generous coat of Osmo Wood Protector, which acts as a base coat for the final finish. After that had dried, we added two coats of Osmo Top Oil in Clear Satin, which is water-repellent and hard-wearing. It also enhances the natural tones of the wood—it basically just makes the wood look great.
And that was it. The final result was worktops that looked like new for a fraction of the cost of replacing them.

There were areas of the wood where the varnish had completely worn away, leaving bare wood with some dark staining from, well, life.
We took care of this using Osmo Tannin Spot Remover, which helps to eliminate stains in such areas, followed by a bit of elbow grease (more sanding).

As this project involved decorating the kitchen, dining room, and all the woodwork, as well as renovating the wooden worktops and painting the fireplace, it took a while before we could fully appreciate how everything looked once it was done. Suffice to say, the clients were very happy with the end result, especially since we saved them the cost of replacing the oak worktops.
