Hall, stairs & landing decorating.
Menston, Ilkley.

This project was to revitalise the hall, stairs and landing of a large cottage in Menston, Ilkley.
The house has a substantial footprint, around the length of three local cottages, so the upstairs hallway is quite long - to say the least!
The project involved plenty of prep work such as repairs to the walls where old alarm boxes, doorbells, light switches, light fittings and old wires had been removed leaving big gaps. There was filling and sanding to all the woodwork and trim (including nine door frames), sanding all the walls and ceilings, as well as preparing some newly plastered areas for paint.
The woodwork was then airless sprayed white with primer and two top coats. The primer was needed due to the large amounts of sanding and filling done at the prep stage.
The walls were finished by hand in Farrow & Ball Modern Emulsion in Au Lait No.CB9

There was plenty of prep and masking on this job with it being such a long house.
With the woodwork being airless sprayed there were nine doorframes that needed to be masked off on the back side (inside each room along the hallway). This took time but was worth the effort as it meant that all of the woodwork, including that inside the rooms, had the flawless finish that you only get with spray painting.
If you take out drying times, the total time spent painting all the woodwork in the property was around one hour. This would have taken about 3 days to do by hand, if not more, plus the spray finish is better.
